CREATE A TEA SET CERAMIC PARTY

Theme: A ceramics party where the guests create teacups and sauces or mugs in the colors chosen by the bride to make a complete set. 

Guest of Honor Profile: For the bride who loves crafting and pottery.  

 Invitations: Velum paper overlay on a floral postcard affixed with wide sheer ribbon bow.

 Décor: Plastic sheeting over floral table clothes.  Use flowering plants in terra cotta pots for table centerpieces.  Pour ceramics paint into clear plastic cups and set cups in small terra cotta pots around centerpiece.  Pots should be slightly larger than paint cups to mask plastic.  Set paintbrushes in terra cotta pot and place unfinished pottery on table for guests to paint.  When painting is finished remove pottery, paint supplies and plastic sheeting from table and you have a clean cloth to eat upon.              

 Menu:

Cake Décor:  Purchase a child’s tea set from a toy store and arrange the items on top of the cake.

Games / Activities: You can host this party in a ceramics crafting studio if you have the budget.  Many studios charge an hourly fee per person plus the cost of the pottery.  Plus, the studios are open to the public unless you rent the whole place.  This shower is wonderful hosted in a backyard.  Prior to the shower, the bride chooses the unpainted, unglazed mugs, saucers or any item she wishes for her collection. She also selects paint colors.  All the necessary supplies and can be purchased at a ceramics or craft store. I recommend that the bride find pictures of pottery from a catalogue or magazine with examples of design styles she likes as a reference for the guest artists. 

After the shower the host takes the painted pottery to the ceramics store to be fired in a kiln.  If there is not a ceramics store in your area check with a local college or art store as many have departments with facilities for making glazed pottery or they can refer you to a private studio.

Music: Ethereal and creative music such as Enya and Deep Forest.  

Party Favors: Give each guest a floral apron to wear over their clothes.  Roll each apron up and wrap a bow around the middle.  Place rolls in a basket set on a table.
